About the event
This lecture dives into Shakespeare at his funniest—and his filthiest. Far from dusty reverence, Shakespeare’s plays are packed with bawdy jokes, brutal insults, sexual innuendo, and razor-sharp wordplay designed to get laughs and land blows. From clever roasts disguised as poetry to insults that would still sting today, we’ll explore how language becomes a weapon on the Elizabethan stage. This interactive session breaks down famous burns, hidden dirty jokes, and the social rules that made mockery not just acceptable—but theatrical gold.
