About the event

Fools in Shakespeare’s plays are far more than comic relief—they are truth-tellers, social critics, and moral observers hidden behind humor. This lecture explores the role of the Fool as a figure uniquely allowed to speak truth to power, often saying what no one else dares. Through characters like Lear’s Fool, Feste, and Touchstone, we’ll examine how wit, wordplay, and irony expose hypocrisy, reveal emotional truths, and guide audiences through the chaos of the play. In Shakespeare’s world, the Fool may be the only one who truly understands what’s going on. No registration is needed. This is a Free lecture series. Kid/family friendly.
